All of the kids around here are getting the Nerf guns and constantly shooting each other and I’m doing my best to duck and dodge the flying darts! SO! To curb all of this enthusiasm (and to guarantee everyone’s safety from me!) how about we have a Nerf Gun Shootout happening at CFT?
We could have an all-out war, or maybe set up a shooting range and give points for targets hit and stuffs. I’m not big into the Nerf guns so I dunno what would be a good event other than everyone running around like crazed idiots shooting each other with foam rubber darts.
This sounds pretty awesome, and I’m certain tons of people would be interested!
The only issue I see is keeping track of all the darts so that we don’t leave foam presents all over the campsite. With the battle of the brightest it wasn’t too unwieldy to clean up because everything was easy to spot. Perhaps we could have the battle in an open but labeled area so as not to lose darts all over the site?
I agree with Z though, we’d have to have some kind of specific area or way to keep from losing darts. Not only are those bitches expensive, but I highly doubt they’re biodegradable.
So, just my 2 cents. Beyond the problem with stray darts, I also see the problem of basic wilderness. Dust, dirt, furry critters, both large and small :P, etc. We did a nerf war at RF last year and it was already insane, with lots of darts destroyed. I know I wouldn’t wanna go home from this trip and have to clean my guns and a couple hundred darts. I’m leaning more towards a good ol fashioned water gun/super soaker war assuming it’ll be hot in Oregon in the middle of the summer.

Water guns are a good idea as well and there is the creek at the far end of the campsite that can provide all the water you could ever want!
As far as a Nerf war is concerned, you guys have mentioned a few things about the darts. Here’s what I was thinking regarding that. Everyone could either:
[ul][li]Contribute darts in a massive pile and when everything’s finished we’ll count out as many darts as we have and return what we can to everyone,[/li]
[li]Everyone could mark their darts somehow (dunno how effective this would be though) and try to reacquire them after the carnage,[/li]
[li]Everyone could contribute to a dart fund,[/li]
[li]?[/li][/ul]
Keep the ideas coming! After all, it’s you guys who are the ones that are going to make this successful!
Only real problem I can see with the squirt guns would be the fact that almost everything we walk on is dirt.
Lots of water + lots of dirt + lots of furries = potential problems for all.
The main problem being a good bit of mud everywhere that people walk. This may not be a problem for some, but I could imagine that most people don’t want to be constantly stepping in mud.
Keeping it limited to a certain area would work, but I can predict that the boundaries will be broken.
Might be able to organize a trip up to the lake for that, maybe?
I don’t see that the amount of water from a water gun fight would cause mud problems. The area is so dry anything short of a bucketful will disappear real quick. Just don’t go rolling in the dirt.
Katra- I’m just assuming a best case scenario of something like 40 or so people participating with anything ranging from a small dollar store squirt gun, to a larger super soaker (most of which unload large amounts of water). It was only a thought that may be of concern to some.
I figure of course we’d keep it in a single area, therefore cutting down the chance for mud buildup and at the right time of day, Katra’s right, it probably would just dry up within the hour or so. Nobody wants a campsite wide water fight.
