Happenings FAQ and Questions megathread!

This will be updated as needed. If you have a question not listed here, ask!

Q: What is a Happening?
A: A Happening is an event of artistic significance at Campfire Tails. It can be anything ranging from traditional art exhibits, to participatory events(like craft workshops), to community builds, to mixed medium art displays, to something instantaneous and fluid, like a flash mob or a musical performance executed within the Boundaries of our event area; the Sandbox.

Q: How much does it cost to register a Happening?
A: Nothing at all outside of regular registration! When you arrive at Camp and complete check-in, you will be given further instructions on where to go to get more info about your Happening!

Q: Who can form a Happening?
A: Anyone who is attending! Effectively Campfire Tails is by and large a blank slate for creativity, and we want everyone to take whatever big idea they have and make it real!

Q: How large or small can a Happening be?
A: Small can be as simple as one person handing out unique stickers to strangers, or as large as a concert or a tent dedicated to a theme or anything that your mind can come up with that can let you connect to people in your own special way.

Q: What is the purpose of this subforum?
A: The purpose of this subforum is to give people a means to toss out ideas in Koda’s thread and begin the initial conception of their Happenings for next Summer. Once the new site launches(before FC), you’ll be able to formally register and begin planning out your Happening with the site.

Q: How do I form a Happening?
A: Once our new website launches we will have a site option with registration and accounts for forming and maintaining your Happening, complete with resources and social networking tools to help you put your unique event together, from conception to sandbox! In the meantime, please check the thread here for instructions on how to apply.

Q: What is ‘The Sandbox’?
A: The Sandbox is to CFT what a baseball field is to a baseball stadium. It’s the heart and lifeline of CFT; an open blank canvas for people to set up and enact their Happenings, should their Happening require space and/or time.

Q: I’m a Musician/Band/DJ/Performance Artist and want to put on a show! What do I do?
A: Awesome! We will have a small PA system set up set up for the ‘Music Happening’. for live music/discussions/workshops in the day that we can schedule timeslots for, and after the sun goes down, Dance music! To join in, take a look at the thread and it’s timetable, and speak to me. Once your timeslot shows up, you can update your Happenings page! Also if you feel like just wandering about playing an instrument, feel free! We have a PA and can take 1/4" and RCA inputs, as well as a usb preamp for those with laptops and some (very)limited lighting equipment. If you want to bring more, do so!

Q: What can’t I do with a Happening?
A: You may not spill any fluids on the ground that isn’t water or simple biodegradable materials(castille soaps, etc). Period. Due to the remote location and being surrounded by lots of dry materials, burning displays are NOT allowed. We want to use the sandbox to display creativity, and that doesn’t include drawing the ire of the people kind enough to let us use their National Park! If you have to ask, you should think of something else!

Q: My display needs (insert matter)!
A: Bring power with you! Bring your own supplies! Bring your own tent/canopy/seating! If it’s not a patch of ground you need or a stage for performing, bring it! If you use a petrol-generator, have a spill-proof tarp underneath it in case of slip ups!

Q: My display uses electricty, what do I need?
A: You need to have an ABC-rated fire extinguisher that is fully charged and inspected in the year the event is taking place and has an output volume equal to the square footage of your Happening.

Q: My Happening is kinda dangerous. What happens if someone gets hurt?
A: You are liable for the people who are in your Happening and participating! Keep this in mind!

Q: I want to charge people to participate in my Happening or sell things in my Happening! Can I do this?
A: You need to keep track of all payments made via receipts. Get in touch with Koda at least a month before CFT and let him know whether or not he needs to give you an invoice you can use. At the end of CFT, we will take this 5% of all revenue generated from sales and make a donation to the High Desert Museum. You can do this by giving your money to either Koda or Z at CFT on Monday morning after the closing ceremony. Even if you made no sale, the invoices must be returned. As CFT represents all the sellers at the park, we hold the singular land use permit and no sales permit is required.

Q: Does my Happening need to be Furry Themed?
A: Not at all! While Campfire Tails is an event hosted by furries FOR furries, it’s actual content is up to the person in charge of the Happening! We highly encourage you guys to get a bit wild and ‘out there’. Furry Burning Man, anyone?

Q: Does my Happening have to follow the year’s theme?
A: Nope! We encourage people to fall into the year’s theme, but if you have something else in mind, by all means, do it!

Q: My Happening is being ruined by some jerk! What do I do?
A: Flag down your nearest camp counselor. Barring that, the nearest staff member will put in a call and help will be obtained immediately. Do not try to dissolve the problem yourself, in case it escalates. The last thing we want is for someone to get hurt!

Q: My Happening is expensive to set up! Can you help me?
A: The purpose of Campfire Tails is to provide a safe location for artists to form their ideas into reality. As it stands, we keep all costs low because every single cent that goes into the event goes right back out to you, the attendees. You’re not attending OUR event, you’re attending YOUR event. You helped pay for it! Be proud! At the same time, we have no additional funds to help artists with their Happenings, so it’s up to you to find a creative way to work around it!

Q: Can people sleep at my Happening?
A: Yes! Just be sure to let the event coordinators know of your plans so your Happening doesn’t get crashed by Public Safety.

Q: My Happening means a lot to me, how do I keep it from being stolen/defaced while I’m gone?
A: During the evening, a counselor will be patrolling the car park and sandbox areas to ensure that all is locked down properly. Unfortunately no security is completely ironclad and things may be stolen. If you’re worried about it, it is highly suggested you break down your Happening and secure it every night before leaving. Keep your valuables with you or locked away somewhere safe. CFT will not be responsible for lost or stolen property that cannot be recovered.

Q: Can I serve food/drink at my Happening?
A: You need an Oregon food handler’s card or an Oregon Liquor Service License to serve food or alcohol in your Happening to the public. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Q: Can my Happening be closed to invite only?
A: We’re here to form a strong communal bond with everyone involved. For this reason, there can be no ‘Private’ Happenings. If you want to have a private party or otherwise, locate your event to the camping area and keep your boundaries restricted to that of your tent(s)!

Sounds like a terribly intense amount of spiffy.

far too much spiffy. needs less 8|

It’s hard to have too much spiff!

Sense art is going to be the focus of things then we should have art sessions with nude models. I volunteer Moewingfox as one of the models… as well as couger, and possiblie koinu.

Good idea? Bad idea?

nudes FTW :3

since I live in the area, I dont know how much you guys are familiar with, so please forgive. But do you know of the High Desert Museum? Awesome awesome mini zoo/museum up in Bend. Live otters, falcons, tons and tons of Oregon high desert animals. Maybe a field trip up there as part of activities? Maybe even getting them to come an put on an animal talk/display? they do that occassionally to schools in the area :3

I put in a call to the high desert museum. Waiting for a call back!

Updated info for those wanting to sell items/services at their Happening!

OMG I went to the high desert museum on a field trip in forth grade, such an amazing place.

Will there be swimming in the area? I can imagine it being hot at times.

The site is right next to a creek (dunno how much water will actually be flowing)
And people could probably carpool up to the lake. Although, the water is likely to be VERY cold, despite it being the middle of summer.

I think a carpool can be arranged for a nice swimmin hole. I can’t imagine being the only one that wants to cool off. :3

Nava checked out the creek last weekend, and it still has water in it(straight from the lake, if I recall). In most places it’s just a foot deep, so depends on one’s definition of ‘swimming’! The good news, however, is that even if you can’t go diving, it would be great for sitting and soaking.

I’m pretty sure Pulsifer and I will hit the lake at least once, she’s an otter and I just plain like water. Also we will be sporting our Alice in Wonderland themed custom swimsuits designed by me, so we have to find an excuse to wear them!

Definitely sounds fun

Updated seller info, happening formation and better informed ‘purpose statement’. Yes we are improving!
