Calling all artists: CFT is now accepting artwork submissions for our 2018 printed badge inserts! If you’re an artist (of any skill level, novice to pro) who is interested in submitting a design to us for consideration, please read through this forum post for all the important details, including how to format and send us your artwork.
Deadline for badge submissions is Monday, July 23, 2018 @ 6:00 AM PDT (though you are welcome and encouraged to send us your artwork sooner if you finish it early!)
THEME
This year’s event theme is “Harvest Moon,” and artwork with a Country Fair, Farm, Fall Festival and/or Carnival aesthetic is HIGHLY encouraged! Visuals might include things like full moons (and things howling at them), symbols of the harvest (Farmer’s Almanac, pumpkins and other produce, haystacks, horns-of-plenty), straw hats and overalls, farm animals, blue ribbons, symbols of autumn (falling leaves, fall bouquets, warm colors), symbols of the fall equinox (equal day/night length, yin/yang, sun/moon or other celestial themes), carnival games/booths, fair rides, candy stripes and bright lights, cotton candy and popcorn, fortune tellers, carnival barkers, sideshow/circus performers (acrobats, jugglers, fire-breathers), and so on!
CONTENT
Please keep content to a maximum PG-13 rating, as badge art will be displayed in public and seen by everyone. We hope this is common sense, but we cannot accept any works that depict graphic nudity, explicit sexual themes, graphic violence or illegal activities.
FORMAT
Please download our template image:
…and create your work following the cut/crop/safe area guidelines, as shown.
Things to keep in mind as you create your work:
-
Art should be “full bleed” – that is, your art or its background should extend all the way to the edges of the solid red CROP LINE (as seen on the template). In a nutshell: you want your artwork to fully cover the RED and GREEN areas of the template, but with understanding that anywhere in the RED areas might get cut off on the printed badge inserts.
-
Cut lines will vary slightly from badge to badge, so it’s best to avoid placing any important details you don’t want cut off, like text or signatures, outside the GREEN area.
Examples of Cut Badges
Here is an example of how badges will be cropped and cut, using one of my own works from 2016. Note that all important details are kept within the dotted red line, but also extend sligtly beyond it, with the background color extending all the way to the solid red line (“full bleed”):
And here’s how the actual printed badge inserts are cut/cropped, with attendee name and other official CFT stuff printed in white on the black background:
CFT’s Terms of Use for Artwork Submissions
By submitting your artwork to Campfire Tails, you agree to the following terms:
-
You are granting CFT free, non-exclusive, worldwide rights to reproduce and/or modify your original artwork, online and/or in print, for uses including (but not limited to) posting on our website and forums, other social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, in printed materials and con swag, and in advertising or other promotions for the event.
-
You are the sole copyright holder of the work(s) being submitted, meaning the art is fully your own original work, and you are able to legally submit it to us for publication in this manner. Derivative works (ie collages, works traced directly from another image/photograph, works containing copyrighted or trademarked characters/words/symbols) or collaborative works (created by more than one artist) are not allowed unless you can show us proof of written permission from each copyright holder that they have consented for their work to be used in this manner.
-
If we choose your artwork for publication, we will notify you by email and/or forum PM, and credit you as the artist in our printed materials (distributed at the event) and/or online (on our website/forum). While we cannot guarantee direct credit can be given to you on every social media post (due to space constraints), we’ll do our best to credit you directly upon first use, and thereafter whenever possible.
-
You may request one free copy of any printed (or otherwise tangible) item we create that uses your original work:
-If you attend CFT, just ask for your free “artist’s copy” when you check in at the event.
-If you are unable to attend, please send us your mailing address, and we’ll mail your free copy to you after the event has ended. -
You may not post or publicly share the full-resolution version of your artwork submission online until after the event has ended (on or after August 6, 2018).
File Types
-PSD (Photoshop), TIF, PNG, or JPG (Highest Quality only, please!)
-We recommend submissions be 300dpi or higher, and set to RGB color mode.
